			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Amgen Award for Science Teaching Excellence (AASTE) is an annual awards program that recognizes extraordinary contributions by educators across the United States, Puerto Rico and Canada who are elevating the level of science literacy through creativity in the classroom and motivation of students. An independent panel of judges selects the winners based on the following criteria: creativity and effectiveness of teaching methods; the plan for the use of grant money to improve science education resources in their schools; and an innovative science lesson plan showcasing innovative methods in the classroom. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Ciba Foundation Middle Level And High School Science Teaching Awards, a partnership between the foundation and the National Science Teachers Association, recognizes one<br />
middle level and one high school teacher who have demonstrated exemplary science teaching performance in one or more of the following areas: (1) creativity in the use of science teaching materials; (2) design and use of innovative teaching plans and ideas; (3) development and implementation of department, school, or school-community programs for the improvement of science instruction or the stimulation of interest in science and the learning of science; and 4) reflecting the National Science Education Standards.<br />
The award consists of $4,000; a one-year membership in NSTA; and expenses (up to $1,000) to attend the NSTA National Conference on Science Education. Awardees will be honored at the Awards Banquet during the NSTA conference.</p>
